WSLHD marks World Oral Health Day
World Oral Health Day is a global event held annually on the 20th March to emphasise the importance of Oral Health for a healthy lifestyle.
Oral Health is an integral part of general health and well-being, and an unhealthy mouth can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and pneumonia, therefore keeping your mouth healthy is important for maintaining good general health.
This year an online quiz run for WSLHD staff to test their knowledge on how sugary drinks affect oral health received a great reaction with over 200 responses. The prize for completing the quiz was a free water bottle, supplied by the Centre for Oral Health Strategy.
A stall was also held in the main entrance to Westmead Hospital to celebrate and promote the day. Staff from the Westmead Centre for Oral Health Education Unit, Dr Michelle McNab (Oral Health Promotion Coordinator) and Dr Herdeza Verzosa, (Senior Dental Officer Education), attended the stall to hand out water bottle prizes and promote oral health messages to staff and public.
