Professor Phillip Newton has been appointed the new director of WSLHD’s Nursing Research Centre.
Phillip comes to the district with a wealth of experience in research, having previously been the director of research students in the Faculty of Health at UTS and a senior lecturer in the Centre for Cardiovascular and Chronic Care.
A registered nurse, Philip has also had a strong interest in research, looking at risk factor modification and symptom management.
He is now leading a team investigating the impact of frailty on people with chronic heart failure, as well as people referred for solid organ transplantation.
He is also a senior investigator for the Heart Failure Snapshot study, the largest point prevalence study of acute heart failure and investigation of clinical variation across institutions in Australia.
Welcome to the district Phillip!
Over the past few years, nursing and midwifery staff across the district have been actively promoting research.
Philip’s role will involve supporting and expanding research capacity among nurses and midwives in the LHD and lifting the academic profile of nursing.
Phillip was officially welcomed with a special morning tea on June 21.
