NAIDOC Week celebrations at Mount Druitt Hospital

NAIDOC Week celebrations kicked off at Mount Druitt Hospital on July 3 with an Acknowledgement to Country by Uncle Ray Leslie, speeches by hospital representatives Peter De Robillard and Linda Lewis and Didgeridoo performances by Tyleeka Roberts, Greg Kilby and Owen Simpson.

This year’s theme was Our Languages Matter.

In Blacktown and Mount Druitt, there are more than 45 nations represented.

Language is important to Aboriginal people – each language is associated with an area of land and spirituality.

Many locations in the Blacktown LGA, like suburbs, parks and streets, are named using Aboriginal language.
