Welcome ‘Cranium’ – Blacktown Hospital’s new crane

Blacktown Hospital Redevelopment construction staff have officially named their new crane “Cranium”.
Situated on the new car park site, the crane is helping to building an extra 422 spaces for Blacktown Hospital in a parking expansion that’s due for completion in early 2018.
Former staff member Kay De Ridder came up with the name as part of a naming competition. She said she was reading something about brain surgery and the name “Cranium” just came into her mind.
“I’m thrilled to have won – it’s a great, fun way to get people involved in the expansion project,” she said.
To add to the fun, the construction team from Taylor will hoist a name flag on the crane shortly. In the spirit of competition, they have agreed with Health Infrastructure the flag will be blue if the Blues win the State of Origin season decider, and maroon if the Queenslanders win.
A project spokesperson said both sides are “supremely confident” today … but it might be different story tomorrow.
The project is part of the $700 million plus Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospital Expansion Project Stage 2. A new main hospital building is also under construction at Blacktown.
