Star midwives earn prestigious medal

Two midwives from Blacktown Hospital have been recognised as top performers in their graduate diploma in midwifery, earning a prestigious Dean’s Medal from Western Sydney University.

Amy Chen and Gina Sheedy both achieved outstanding results in their studies, and performed in the top two percent of completing students.

Ms Chen said her studies were supported by her colleagues at Blacktown Hospital.

“This award reflects the support that I have been given at my workplace – without it I wouldn’t have been able complete the program,” said Ms Chen.

“We have a wonderful team at birthing unit and the whole maternity service in this hospital, many wonderful midwives, and doctors who are willing to teach and share their experiences and skills.”

A ceremony was held on 3 July where Amy and Gina were acknowledged.
