War on diabetes strengthens

A successful event was hosted by Western Sydney Diabetes this week to launch ‘Blacktown Focus’, a project to encourage a whole-of-community approach to diabetes management and prevention.
More than 100 partners attended the launch, co-led by the Mayor of Blacktown, Councillor Stephen Bali and Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals’ general manager, Sue-Anne Redmond. Leaders from health, non- government and the private sector also attended.
The event allowed organisations to showcase the extensive work that’s already being carried out in Blacktown as well as providing opportunities to contribute ideas and resources to both commit to and expand the scope of the work.
The ongoing support provided to the Western Sydney Local Health District by the Department of Premier and Cabinet, WentWest and Diabetes NSW in co-leading Western Sydney Diabetes is an example of true collaboration which resulted in the winning of the prestigious Pemulwuy Prize earlier this year.
