Vollies on common ground

Mount Druitt Hospital volunteers Pat Moir & Emily Jancek.

Meet Mount Druitt residents and volunteers Pat Moir and Emily Jancek.

Pat and Emily share something in common – they both give their time to do something they are passionate about and give back to their communities.

Pat co-ordinates the Mount Druitt Hospital volunteer patient transport service, which ferries eligible patients to and from medical appointments at Blacktown, Mount Druitt Westmead or Nepean hospitals.

“Managing and co-ordinating more than 30 volunteers and ensuring patients are picked up from their residence for transportation to their medical appointments can be challenging and keeps me busy,” Pat said.

“This friendly group of volunteers are like my second family and I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else.”
Emily shares similar responsibilities, organising the staffing and the day-to-day running’s of the hospital’s kiosk.

“The kiosk is operated by the hospital’s volunteers and is open seven days a week from 7.30am until 6pm,” Emily said.

“All money raised from any purchase is directed back into the hospital for medical equipment.

Both ladies are looking for dedicated, friendly and professional volunteers to join them for regular stints at Mount Druitt Hospital.
