The transformation at Westmead continues to gather pace, with a new light rail link reinforcing the city’s role as part of Australia’s booming city, Parramatta.

The connection between the Westmead precinct, Parramatta CBD and the surrounding urban transformation is important to social and economic growth and reinforcing this vibrant business district as a geographical, commercial and cultural centre and an engine for jobs and innovation.

WSLHD has been working closely with the Parramatta Light Rail team to ensure this great new service benefits our patients, families, staff, students, researchers and the broader community.

Parramatta Light Rail is an important addition to the transport mix at Westmead and supports the vision for Westmead as a liveable and workable health and education city that will continue to attract the best minds from across Australia and around the world.

Within the next two decades, the Westmead precinct will expand from approximately 18,000 staff and visitors to 30,000 and student numbers are expected to exceed 9,000.

The Westmead Redevelopment team continue extensive planning work on the new central acute services building, which will open in 2020.

This includes the new main plaza entry and patient drop off zone on Hawkesbury Road.  We are working closely with our precinct partners and the Parramatta Light Rail team to ensure the new light rail is seamlessly integrated into our redeveloped precinct.
