Celebrating 35 years since the Queen unveiled Mount Druitt Hospital
Thirty five years ago, the community turned up in thousands to catch a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip officially opening Mount Druitt Hospital on 11 October, 1982.
Decades on, a celebration will be held to mark the hospital’s anniversary and proud history this afternoon.
The hospital’s plays a pivotal role in the Mount Druitt community, providing excellent healthcare in the heart of one of the fastest growing regions in NSW.
The facility offers medical assessment, rehabilitation, surgical, paediatrics and one of Australia’s best palliative care services. It also has a 24-hour emergency department.
Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals’ general manager Sue Anne Redmond said long-serving staff and volunteers were honoured to be part of the hospital’s progress and development.
“We are all immensely proud of our history and dedication to providing quality healthcare and patient-centred care.
“Mount Druitt Hospital holds a strong community spirit like no other. I look forward to seeing the facility go from strength to strength.”
Mount Druitt Hospital has recently been transformed as part of the $700 million Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals’ expansion project, which is changing the way health services are provided.
The project has already delivered a new pre-admission clinic and drug health centre and an additional operating room. Patients will soon also benefit from a new community dialysis centre.
“These new services ensure that Mount Druitt Hospital will continue to expand to serve the local community, and the wider western Sydney area,” said Sue Anne.
