Supportive care volunteers come to Westmead Hospital

Cancer services nursing unit manager Nancy Yang (centre) with volunteers Vidya and Pavi on their first day.

Several new supportive care volunteers have started at Westmead Hospital’s cancer services ward.

The ward caters for palliative care patients, along with medical and radiation oncology patients.

Supportive Care volunteers have specialised training, which enables them to support patients with life-limiting illnesses and their carers and families.

They offer companionship, a listening ear, gentle hand massages and support.

The ward is looking for more volunteers to join the supportive care volunteer service.

If you have three hours a week and are mature, compassionate and a good listener, contact volunteer manager Kylie Clark on 0407 730 596 or kylie.clark@health.nsw.gov.au
