Education day for Westmead theatre nurses

On Saturday, November 4, 2017, nursing staff from Westmead Hospital’s Darcy operating theatres, the cardiothorasic intensive care unit and cardiothorasic surgery attended the fifth annual theatre nurses training day.

The education day was designed to bring together nurses from the three wards for education related to cardiothoracic nursing and team building.

The day also aimed to encourage staff to discuss issues and ideas for quality projects that could be introduced across all three areas to improve patient care and outcomes, and promote a team approach across the service.

The annual training day has proven to be successful, with other organisations copying the model.

The presenters were from across the multidisciplinary team including consultant surgeons, anaesthetists, perfusionists, physiotherapists and clinical nurse consultants.
