Wow: 240 years of giving celebrated

Volunteers; Westmead Hospital
Happy Christmas and thank you to our Westmead Hospital volunteers!

How many organisations can boast that they have people who have performed more than 240 years of service? This is the number of years combined which our volunteers have dedicated to Westmead Hospital.

Our volunteers were recently awarded and thanked for their continuous dedication and commitment to providing services to our patients, visitors and staff.

Westmead Hospital corporate services director Mathivanan Sakthivel presented certificates to volunteers who have worked for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years.

We had a stand-out member present … 86 year-old Pat Selfe who has volunteered at Westmead for 37 years.

Here’s some quirky facts about this selfless bunch of people:

  • The patient buggy has made more than 15,000 trips around the campus this year
  • The hard-working fundraising team has raised more than $22,000 for medical equipment this year
  • They were advocates and assisted with the removal of sugary drinks from the hospital
  • They help in various aspects of a patient’s journey from driving them to their destinations within and external to the hospital, providing directions and are great listeners

“On behalf of the management, staff and our patients and visitors I’d like to thank them for their ongoing contributions to the hospital and community and wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas.  I look forward to seeing everyone return in 2018,” said Mathivanan.
