Bollywood blaze gets hearts pumping at cardiology awards

A blaze of Bollywood colour has lit up the presentation of Westmead Cardiology’s annual nursing awards at Northmead Bowling Club, with Steven Oh taking out the Nursing Excellence Award.
Monika Sefarth won the Clinical Nurse of the Year while Vickie Ma took home the Nursing Diamond Award.
Acting nurse unit manager Cardiac Catheter Laboratories Tamara Claxton said the three-award structure mean all nurses regardless of experience could win a category.
“The Nursing Excellence Award is aimed a new graduates, ENs, and RNs with up to four years’ experience,” Tamara said.
“The Clinical Nurse of the Year recognises nurses with six and more years’ experience while the Nursing Diamond Award focuses on various occupations with four to eight years’ experience.
“Steven, Monika and Vickie have been recognised for their exceptional leadership and how they contribute day by day in a way that demonstrates our nursing values.”
The concept of the annual nursing awards originated with a cardiology nurse who identified that nurses respond well to peer appreciation.
Each winner took away among their haul of prizes a $1000 education grant.
