Health literacy can empower

Health literacy is about empowerment.
Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) clinicians and staff are invited to attend Health Literacy Research Forum presented by Allied Health Clinicians & Health Literacy Lab/Hub on Thursday 22 February at 12.00pm-1.30pm in the Case Study Room L1.01 WECC Level 1, Westmead Hospital.
Join WSLHD chief executive Danny O’Connor and Research and Education director Professor Stephen Leeder in a panel discussion on how we enhance health literacy among many varieties of cultures in western Sydney.
WSLHD Research & Education Network director Professor Stephen Leeder said that health literacy is the ability of a community to understand enough about health.
“This will help people of our community to use the healthcare system wisely,” Prof Leeder said.
WSLHD Professor of Allied Health Victoria Flood said the research forum will feature an overview of a multidisciplinary research project undertaken by allied health clinicians in Westmead Hospital.
“This study provides a snapshot of participants perceptions of their health literacy and helps to identify areas to further support patients,” Prof Flood said.
“It will be presented at the research forum by Social Worker Kim Hobbs, and a panel discussion will follow about implications and next steps in health literacy research translation.”
