Yaralla celebrated with a sanga

Staff have welcomed the completion of the refurbishment of Cumberland Hospital’s Yaralla ward.
The ward welcomed its first patients in the new-look space last week, after it was temporarily closed for an internal make-over.
The refurbishment was designed to enhance staff and patient safety in the space by improving sight lines and visibility.

The ward now offers a larger main entrance, new reception area and a new staff room and staff station.
Ward staff celebrated the refurbishment in early March with a barbecue.
Mental health executive director A/Prof Beth Kotze thanked the staff for their patience during the renovation.
“I am thrilled to see the new-look ward come to life,” she said.
“The staff have been so patient during the work and I know the new space will enhance visibility, safety and patient care.”
The second stage of the refurbishment will start soon and includes upgrades to fencing and courtyard spaces.
