Model shows Westmead precinct of the future

A new 3D model of the Westmead Redevelopment project, complete with lights and custom-made vehicles, has been officially launched at Westmead Hospital.
Parramatta MP Geoff Lee and Seven Hills MP Mark Taylor unveiled the new model today (March 16), with some help from the hospital’s nursing staff.
The new model, produced by Make Models, showcases the new central acute services building and Innovation Centre, currently being built as part of the $1 billion Westmead Redevelopment – the state’s biggest health infrastructure project.
The model also depicts the hospital building’s new plaza and forecourt, located on Hawkesbury Road, and the soon-to-be-built Parramatta Light Rail stations at Westmead Hospital and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

Westmead Redevelopment executive director Leena Singh said the model was a great way to familiarise patients, visitors, students and staff with the Westmead of the future.
“The Westmead precinct is already one of the largest health, education, training and research precincts in Australia and it’s only getting bigger,” she said.
“More than $3 billion investment has already been committed by government, universities and the private sector to upgrade and expand the precinct over the next few years; the new model is just a taste of what Westmead will look like in 10, 20 or even 40 years’ time.
“Westmead is at the forefront of change – it is transforming into an innovation district, home to smart jobs, high-tech commercial industries, excellent transport connectivity and the next generation of leading health and research minds.

“The new central acute services building and Innovation Centre are the jewels in the crown of the new-look Westmead – we’re really looking forward to their completion in 2020.”
The new model took more than 300 hours to build and covers an area spanning 36 football fields.
It has working lighting, custom-designed vehicles, including ambulances, and is made of more than 600 pieces.
The new model is located on level 2 of the E block of Westmead Hospital.
