Vote now: Kids ward in running for $12,000 IKEA makeover

Staff patients and children with sign saying vote for us
Patients, parents and staff from the Children’s Ward at Mount Druitt Hospital are encouraging the community to vote for them to win a $12,000 IKEA grant.

Mount Druitt Hospital’s Children’s Ward needs your vote to win a $12,000 IKEA makeover.

The ward is one of three finalists in the running for the grant which will be funded by the furniture giant’s Living Local Community Grants Program.

Fundraising and events manager Sonia Daniels said the Children’s Ward team hopes to use the funds to create spaces for patients’ parents to relax.

“We want to be able to offer parents a space to retreat from the hospital environment while still being close to their child’s hospital bed,” Sonia said.

Patients from the Children’s Ward got creative and created a colourful sign encouraging the community to vote for the ward in the IKEA grants program.

“At the moment our families have a small room with a kitchenette and table. Ideally we’d like to convert this space into a kitchen and dining area.

“A second room would also be converted from an office to a lounge area with comfortable seating and a space for parents to relax, have some privacy and provide a distraction from the hospital ward.”
