Roll your sleeves up and get arty for palliative care’s 20th

Patients are being encouraged to participate in mosaic workshops to create artworks.
The Mount Druitt Supportive and Palliative Care Unit is celebrating its 20th birthday.

Volunteers, staff, patients and community members have been diligently creating a mosaic which will be unveiled during their anniversary celebrations.

They have been working with artist Marianne Rowley at Bidwill Uniting Creative Space to make their own artistic masterpiece.

The mosaic is being completed in pieces and will be installed like a large jigsaw puzzle measuring two by three metres.

It will feature the dates 1998 to 2018, to commemorate the 20 years of care and compassion from staff to patients receiving end-of-life supportive care.

Supervised by Bidwell Uniting, the mosaic’s theme is “Healing in Nature”, reflecting the birds and wildlife that visit the garden and veranda where patients enjoy sitting.

Smaller mosaics are being completed at the Supportive and Palliative Care Unit to be installed below the large piece.

Family, carers, patients and staff are being encouraged to participate in this therapeutic art making.

All materials are provided and workshops are supervised by staff and volunteers.
