Vote for our palliative care hero for Westfield award

Passionate Mount Druitt Hospital volunteer Maria Greenwood needs your votes to become a Westfield local hero.
If Maria secures the hero title, she will also score a $10,000 donation for Mount Druitt Hospital’s Supportive and Palliative Care Unit.
As a Palliative and Supportive Care Unit volunteer, Maria’s purpose is to assist patients who have a life-limiting illness to live as fully as they can with emotional, social and practical support.
She lends a friendly ear or a helping hand – whatever our patients and their families need at the time.
Maria has been nominated as a finalist in the Westfield Local Heroes program, which is a new community recognition initiative celebrating individuals who promote social wellbeing and harmony in our communities through their work, programs or activities.

Fundraising and events manager Sonia Hollands said the team in the Palliative and Supportive Care Unit nominated Maria as she connects with patients in an unique and confident manner.
“Her positive demeanour and dedication to the service is reflected in her work and she goes above and beyond in providing upmost care whilst showing consideration and empathy,” Sonia said.
If Maria is selected as one of the final three winners for Westfield Mount Druitt, $10,000 will be donated to the Supportive and Palliative Care Unit at Mount Druitt Hospital.
The funds will be used towards training new volunteers and providing further education and up-skilling. The result will be more qualified volunteers to assist our patients, providing them with comfort and companionship during their end of life.
