The number 8 is regarded the luckiest number in Chinese culture.
Luck can also be perceived as longevity, contentment, successful and happiness to name a few and that is what a volunteer at Blacktown Hospital experiences and shares each day.
Betty Starkey is one of the hospital’s longest serving, punctual, friendliest person you will ever meet. She has worked at the hospital for almost 40 years – almost all of her working life.
Betty turned 88 years on August 8 , 2018.
Blacktown and Mount Druitt hospitals voluntary services coordinator Janice Low commented even though the number 8 is lucky for many people it is actually the hospital who is the lucky ones by having people like Betty helping our community and staff.
“She takes pride in her work … and helps the Pink Lady volunteers prepare for their duties,” Ms Low said.
“Betty is well-known and liked by everyone … all the Pink Lady volunteers admire and respect Betty for her kind and compassionate nature.
“It’s not just Betty who is punctual and organised – she doesn’t drive so her husband Malcolm drives her to and from the hospital four days a week – rain, hail or shine!”
Best wishes Betty and many happy returns.
