$1 million plus grant money up for grabs – apply today

The Westmead Hospital Foundation has announced that more than $1 million in research grants are available to researchers and clinicians from Westmead Hospital and the Westmead Institute for Medical Research (WIMR) to tackle some of the most debilitating diseases affecting our community.
Applications are now being accepted and will close on August 31.
The funds have been made possible thanks to generous legacy gifts received by Betty Schofield OAM and Joyce Anderson via the Westmead Hospital Foundation.
Betty Schofield OAM was the chief nurse at Parramatta Hospital for over 40 years, held senior positions at various nursing associations and lead many charitable initiatives. Betty received a number of accolades including the Queen’s Jubilee Medal and Parramatta Woman of the Year.
Joyce Anderson was a Northmead resident whose daughters were cared for at Westmead Hospital’s palliative care unit. When Joyce passed away, she donated her estate to research at the facility.
The funds will be provided to researchers and clinicians looking to improve patient care in the areas of coeliac disease, palliative care, lymphedema, osteoarthritis and cellulitis research and heart care.
To apply, the chief investigator of the research must be employed by Westmead Hospital, WIMR or the University of Sydney and working predominantly at the Westmead adult campus.
Applications that meet the eligibility criteria will progress to evaluation based on things like scientific quality, significance and innovation.
Westmead Hospital Foundation director Joe Conneely said every gift received at the Westmead Hospital Foundation makes a positive difference.
“It’s through the generous support of our donors that the Foundation can provide vital funding for clinicians in their efforts to discover medical advances and deliver improved patient outcomes,” Joe said.
“The deadline is fast approaching, so If you’re a researcher at Westmead, apply today.”
