All invited to check out Westmead’s new hospital building

The Westmead Redevelopment’s new prototype rooms are set to open their doors to all staff, patients, visitors, researchers and students in October, giving people a first glimpse at spaces inside Westmead’s new hospital building.

“Sticky-beak week” – the prototype room viewing sessions – will be held on October 2, 3 and 4 from 12pm-2pm and 3pm-5pm at the prototype rooms, located on Dragonfly Drive, near Redbank House.

The prototype rooms have been under construction for several months and are designed to be identical replicas of spaces inside the new hospital building.

Visitors will be able to tour patient rooms, an operating theatre and staff stations, before construction is completed on the new building in 2020.

Westmead Redevelopment project director (delivery) Matt Vizard said the rooms were a critical step in completing the design and delivery of the new hospital building and refurbished spaces.

“The prototype rooms enable review by the builder and our project team, along with our project user groups, staff and consumers who will be using the new spaces,” he said.

“They’re also a great opportunity for our staff and students to really orientate themselves to the new spaces, and test out their models of care, in preparation for the transition into the new building.”

A range of different groups will tour the prototype rooms in the coming weeks, including project user groups, consumers and executive.
