For all the lives we touch

Westmead Hospital’s Operating Suite is committed to safe patient care.

Clinical nurse educator Binoli Mehta, NUM Anaesthetics Alexandra Allen,
Senior Operations Assistant Sonier Talisayon and Nursing Unit Manager Trevor Court.

Recently, the operating suite had a hand hygiene promotional week.

This involved the whole multi-disciplinary team within the unit.

A full week’s worth of activities was planned. This included a logo, posters, balloons, a power point presentation and a team building activity where  hand prints were painted onto a blank canvas.

All of the operating suite staff got involved in the hand prints activity  to demonstrate their commitment and accountability towards “safe care – it’s in our hands.”

Hand hygiene can lead to the prevention of infection, sepsis, antibiotic resistance, flu and length of stay in hospital.

It was great to see medical, nursing, ancillary staff and carers coming together and being actively involved with all the activities during the week.

It is hoped hand prints on the operating suite wall make staff feel valued every time they walk in and that they feel part of a unit where teamwork is at the forefront.
