My Health Record: it’s your choice

*** Story updated at 3.20pm, 14 November 2018 following Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt’s announcement that the opt out period will be extended to January 31, 2019.

This year all Australians will get a My Health Record.

When you have a My Health Record, your health information can be viewed securely online.

You will be able to access your health information from any computer or device that’s connected to the internet.

Whether you’re visiting a GP, or at an emergency department following an accident and may be unable to talk, healthcare providers involved in your care can easily access important health information.

So far, six million Australians have a My Health Record.

If you’d prefer not to have one, you can opt out here. The deadline for the opt-out period was extended from 15 November to January 31 2019, following an announcement by the Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt.

It’s important to note you can opt-out at any time.

If you opt out, you can still create one at a later date.
