From Texas to Sydney: admin officer chooses love

An administration officer originally from Texas has been enjoying her time working at Blacktown Hospital after following her heart to Sydney two years ago.
Rachel Adams made the move after meeting her Australian boyfriend at the University of Arkansas when they both studied there.
Rachel said many people were sceptical about the idea of moving overseas for love.
“Moving away from home was a massive risk, but everyone can always think about the what ifs,” Rachel said.
“You just need to tweak your perspective to make it work.

“I’m glad I made the decision to pursue love here in Australia. I have life experience, I know about knew cultures and there are a thousand other positives.”
Rachel currently provides support to the Blacktown Hospital main reception, switchboard and assists with surgical bookings.
“It’s a really fast-paced job which I like,” Rachel said.
“From time to time people can get snappy or upset, but it’s not my job to judge, it’s my job to be kind.”
Rachel hopes to go back to studying in Australia as soon as she receives her permanent residency. She hopes to teach Victorian literature at a university.

Rachel was originally featured in a Humans of the Hospital post on the Western Sydney Local Health District Facebook page.
