Sushi, pulled pork and super salads: revamped hospital café menu

A healthy new range featuring the trendy flavours of smoky pulled pork, quinoa and coleslaw rolls are now available at the Fresh+ Café at Blacktown Hospital.
This revamped range also includes options such as sushi, pieces of whole fruit, ‘grab-and-go’ fruit packs, a beetroot super salad and the classic ham, cheese and tomato sandwich.
The changes are part of the roll out of the Healthy Food and Drink in Health Facilities for Staff and Visitors Framework.

Fresh+ Café store manager Natalie Ho said her team was working hard to introduce healthier options over the last couple of months.
“We want to provide the freshest and tastiest range of healthier items,” Natalie said.
The café has also released a trial on the app ‘Skip’ for android or iOS phone to pre-order your food and coffee – customers can also make their own sandwich.

Blacktown Hospital registered nurse and NSW Health Healthy Food and Drink ambassador Jillian Reade gave the new menu options a thumbs up.
“The roasted veggie quinoa salad is so good and wholesome, I don’t want to stop eating to taste anything else,” Jillian said.
“The chicken in the Asian vermicelli salad melts in your mouth and the flavour is delightful.”
Blacktown Hospital registered nurse Kelly Hardy, who is also a healthy food ambassador at Western Sydney Local Health District, said she enjoyed the grab-and-go snacks.

“I also love the fruit pack when you want a fresh snack but are short of time,” Kelly saod.
Fresh+ Café have also revamped their catering menu, which now shows the healthier food items labelled as ‘Everyday’ options.
A chance to win a FitBit will also be available in January and February with any purchase of a Meal Deal at Fresh+ Café.
