This Friday: conference to cover latest in women’s and newborn health

A two-day conference at Westmead Hospital on 3-4 May will showcase the latest achievements and future direction of women’s and newborn services at Westmead, Auburn and Blacktown hospitals.

A star line-up of experts will address some of the hottest topics such as baby-friendly hospital practices, breastfeeding, the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment on pregnancy-related back pain and much more.

Western Sydney Local Health District’s women’s health services are some of the busiest in the state, with maternity and birthing units at Westmead and Blacktown experiencing huge baby booms.

Event organiser and clinical midwifery consultant Michelle Simmons said the conference will showcase the latest research findings in women’s health.  

“This is a not-to-be missed event for anyone interested in maternity care and women’s health,” Michelle said.

“We’ll showcase some of our outstanding achievements and reveal research outcomes that will inform future care.”

This year’s event is the second of its kind. Last year’s event attracted more than 100 people on each day.

A conference dinner will be held at Merrylands RSL on Friday 3 May with entertainment and speakers.

On 5 May Western Sydney Local Health District midwives and their families are invited to celebrate International Midwives Day at Parramatta Lakes from 10am for a walk and picnic.
