Supporting your journey as a nurse or midwife

A great program is available for nurses and midwives transitioning from study to practice.

Are you currently studying a nursing or midwifery degree that will be completed any time from now until 31 May, 2020?

If so, you’re eligible to apply for the NSW Health 2020 GradStart recruitment program (formerly known as Transition to Professional Practice).

The program provides future nurses and midwives the opportunity to transition from student to midwife in a public hospital.

It includes a corporate and workplace orientation, educational support days, two six-month clinical rotations and a wide range of specialities to support career development and future specialisation.

WSLHD nursing and midwifery and clinical governance executive director Carol Farmer said GradStart nurses and midwives play a huge role in the development of a skilled and valued workforce.

“It’s important that each nurse or midwife has a consistent and positive experience that maximises learning opportunities and offers an appropriate level of both clinical and emotional support,” Carol said.

“Our GradStart programs are supported by our nursing and midwifery educators and are offered at Westmead, Blacktown, Mount Druitt and Auburn hospitals, as well as mental health services and community health.”

Applications for the NSW Health 2020 GradStart recruitment are now open and will and close 12 noon Thursday 18 July 2019.
