Celebration of love with books at Westmead Hospital Library

The Westmead Institute for Medical Research’s Paul Quinn, Benjamin French and Janice Le share the gift of love with books on Library Lovers Day.

For most people, February 14 a celebration of romantic love, but for some the day is another celebration entirely: it’s Library Lovers’ Day.

Westmead Hospital Library celebrated the enduring relationship between our staff and the librarians this year under the theme “uncover something new”.

It proved the perfect occasion to reveal the refurbished facilities, including meeting rooms bookable with the touch of a finger, new computers and improved private study areas.

“We loved that so many staff came to celebrate with us,” Westmead Hospital engagement librarian Judy Reading said.

“Medical libraries have a special purpose in making it easy for health professionals to access the latest medical research.

“Technology has changed the way the typical library operates and we have kept up with this pace and the technology.

“We are proud to support the wonderful staff at Westmead Hospital and all our libraries across the district.”

Those who attended the celebration were treated to a novel gift, Valentine’s Day snacks and a love-themed selfie wall.

Westmead Hospital library technician Vicki Mamo, Oral Health dental assistant Sonja Holzapfel and library manager Linda Mulheron.

They were also encouraged to download clinical practice apps to their smart devices, which make it easy to access up-to-date information remotely or at work, and saw demonstrations of the new online library chat service and Ovid Discovery – a new one-stop shop to access full-text information online.

WSLHD staff and students can access Westmead Hospital library 24/7. Swipe card access is required.

Westmead Hospital library staff are available and onsite between 8.30am–5.30pm Monday to Friday.
