Spread love, not COVID: flowers for our health heroes

“Not all angels have wings, some have scrubs” said a note attached to each of two hundred flower bouquets that arrived at Westmead Hospital last Sunday morning.
The Flower Crew florist company teamed up with local Sydney growers Bagala Bros Australia and Apack to give our health heroes some joy and appreciation.

The beautiful flowers were handed out to doctors, nurses and all other hard-working employees performing different, but equally important tasks to keep the hospital operating, sparkling clean and ready for patients.
“What a beautiful gesture! It really brightened my day,” switchboard operater Christine Brennan said.

“Recently we have started receiving many calls from people and businesses offering help and just nice words of support. It is amazing how these difficult times have brought us together. This makes me very happy.”
General services assistant Mayflor Nacion said it was nice to be appreciated as a frontline worker.
“Before doctors and patients come in, cleaners need to make everything spotless. Thank you for these beautiful flowers and for making our work be noticed. This is what keeps our spirits high. We all need it now,” Mayflor said.
“We do feel anxious about coming to work now, but we need to be strong for our little patients. This lovely gesture makes us feel so good and appreciated for the work we do. Thank you,” said Danielle Mahe, registered midwife from maternity.

The Flower Crew director Charlie Boustani said he was happy to spread some joy and gratitude to health workers.
“The doctors, nurses and other staff working at the hospitals are having a tough time. Not just now, but in general – their job is hard! They need to be appreciated and they need to know they are appreciated,” Charlie said.
We sincerely thank The Flower Crew, Bagala Bros Australia, and Apack for the generous gifts to our staff.
