Vale Jennifer Collins – memories of community nurse to be cherished

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of much-loved Mount Druitt Community Health Centre’s clinical nurse specialist Jennifer Collins.
Jennifer (Jenny) passed away on 15 April after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jenny was 54 years old.
Jenny started her nursing career in 2009 at Frenches Forest hospital.
In 2010 Jenny completed a new graduate program at Mount Druitt Hospital Palliative Care Unit and then transferred to the Mount Druitt Community Nursing team in February 2011.
On completion of the new graduate program, Jenny secured a nursing position at Mount Druitt Community Health Centre.
It was here that Jenny provided community home nursing for many years and later managed the Mount Druitt Community Nursing Clinic.
Close friend and community nurse Tabeth Mutonga said that Jenny flourished when she was working with clients in the health centre’s clinic.
“Being a community nurse, Jenny was involved with wound management and chronic illness management,” Tabeth said.
“She was passionate in delivering quality and effective care, it was beautiful to see.”
Tabeth said Jenny become a friend, and not just a colleague.
“Jenny is sorely missed by the clients, the community nursing team and everyone who knew her,” Tabeth said.
“We cannot attend her funeral due to the COVID-19 restrictions, however will cherish our memories we have from her.”
Our thoughts are with Jennifer’s family, colleagues and friends.
