COVID-19 statistics for NSW, May 22

As at 8pm Thursday 21 May 2020, there have been 3 additional cases of COVID-19 diagnosed since 8pm 20 May, bringing the total number of cases to 3,084. 

One person reported as a case in previous days has since been excluded after further review.

There were 8,611 people tested in the reporting period, compared with 9,737 people in the previous 24 hours. 

More than 400,000 people have now been tested for COVID-19 in NSW, which has one of the highest per capita testing rates in the world.

NSW Health would like to thank those with symptoms for coming forward, getting tested and ensuring cases in the community are identified as quickly as possible.

There are no new cases linked to Anglicare Newmarch House. The total number of cases linked to the facility stands at 71 (37 residents and 34 staff).

There are currently 94 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health. This includes one person being treated in intensive care units. They require a ventilator.

There are now 2,648 people in NSW who have recovered from COVID-19.

There was one new COVID-related death in the reporting period, of a woman in her 80’s. NSW Health sends condolences to her family.

This is the 50th death in NSW related to COVID-19. 

NSW Health is urging people with symptoms, including mild symptoms, to be tested to ensure as many cases of COVID-19 in the community are identified as quickly as possible.

This is particularly important in the Hills and Penrith local government areas to help identify cases and understand transmission. All areas of concern for community transmission in NSW are publicly available and listed at areas of concern for community transmission in NSW.
