Brewery donates sanitiser in good spirit

Westmead Hospital’s anaesthetic medical officer Dr Sophie Liang, anaesthetic registrar Dr Erica Sanderson and medical officer Dr Malik Salgado.

Iconic brewers of Victoria Bitter and Great Northern beers, Carlton and United Breweries (CUB), has donated 1000 bottles of alcohol-based hand sanitiser for staff at Westmead Hospital.

Two shipments of this unusual liquid gold, one time unavailable in every supermarket across the country, was delivered to the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Westmead Hospital anaesthetic registrar Dr Sophie Liang reached out to the brewery to source a bottle or two for her colleagues.

“I’d like to thank Carlton and United Breweries for this kind gesture to say thank you to the hospital staff for their hard work over the past few months with COVID-19,” Dr Liang said.

Westmead Hospital’s anaesthetic department appreciate the hand sanitiser donation.

CUB CEO Peter Filipovic said the company was always looking to support the community.

“Helping the people who are directly fighting the effects of this virus is a good start,” Peter said.

“For more than 150 years CUB has helped Australians come together over a beer. Now it’s time to lend a helping hand as they stay apart to fight the virus.”
