HUMANS OF THE HOSPITAL: Volunteer Vera

“I haven’t worked for 12 years, and now my children are in high school, so I became a volunteer at Westmead Hospital three weeks ago!

I thought it would be a good way to fill in some time and give back. I was so happy to get the volunteer work.

I used to work in pharmacy, so the hospital environment feels familiar to me.

I feel so happy to help other people and I think that volunteering is a really important role in the hospital.

The other volunteers are so lovely and helpful – I’ve already learnt a lot from them.

People really appreciate what you do, and it melts my heart when people verbalise their appreciation.”

– Vera, Westmead Hospital volunteer – who whilst partaking in this interview, was approached by a hospital visitor and thanked in detail for her contribution to the hospital.

‘Humans of the Hospital’ is dedicated to the inspiring humans working at Westmead, Blacktown, Mount Druitt Auburn and Cumberland hospitals in western Sydney.
