HUMANS OF THE HOSPITAL: Antoinette Fahim

“Nursing wasn’t my first career choice.
I worked in hospitality for five years after I finished school – but a lot of my friends who are nurses told me I would make a good nurse, so I decided to pursue this path and I’m so glad I did!
I joined the cardiology team after working with them while I completed my Endorsed Enrolled Nurse TAFE training, and now I’m doing a three-year Bachelor of Nursing qualification through the University of Technology Sydney.
Cardiology suits me as it’s practical for any real-life situations.
Juggling work and study can be challenging, but I attend university with two colleagues who work on the same ward as me which is really nice.
I enjoy working on the wards with patients at Blacktown Mount Druitt Hospital (BMDH) and the staff are super helpful and always willing to lend a hand or answer my questions.
The staff are like a family and everyone greets me when I arrive and asks how I’m going. I hope to stay at BMDH when I complete my degree.”
