HUMANS OF THE HOSPITAL: Janette Delia

“I’ve been volunteering at Blacktown Hospital for 17 years and on a day-to-day basis, the highlight is helping people and making their visit to the hospital easier.

On Mondays I do wayfinding and on Tuesdays I’m up at dialysis helping staff with things that build up, like filing and archiving.

It’s nice when patients come back on their way out and say thank you for helping. Some people come in and they’re feeling a bit scared, depending on what they’re going to have done. To have a friendly face walk them there and say ‘all the best’ gives them a little bit of a boost. If people have got the time and they can come and do it, come and volunteer! It’s rewarding to see how people react.”
