‘We couldn’t do it without community support’: Westmead Hospital NICU bringing babies back to good health with help of donations

Some of the most precious patients at Westmead Hospital  are set to benefit from a generous donation by Busways, with the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) receiving a $3,000 cheque to support the life-saving medical care of premature and sick babies.

The large donation was raised thanks to the Busways Christmas Bus Fundraiser in which drivers decorated their vehicles during the 2022 festive season and received donations from passengers.

We are very proud of this donation and grateful to our passengers in Ryde and Willoughby who supported our Christmas Bus Fundraiser

Busways Service Delivery Manager, Kate Wallace

Region 7 Busways Driver, Nicola Pridmore drove one of the Christmas buses and said that this donation is a team effort from drivers and passengers alike, thanks to QR codes on the buses encouraging donations.

“It was wonderful watching the surprise on passengers’ faces boarding our Christmas buses,” Nicola said .

“Busways staff voted for their favourite cause which was Westmead NICU.

“Last year we were overjoyed and grateful to our passengers for supporting us and the tiny babies and their families at Westmead NICU.”

Westmead NICU Department Head, Dr Melissa Luig said, “We are just really grateful for your gift, and every gift actually matters and makes a real difference”.

Thank you, Busways for this incredibly generous gift which will help Westmead NICU purchase a much-needed respiratory ventilator for our babies needing breathing support

Westmead NICU Department Head, Dr Melissa Luig

“We bring babies back to a state of good health, and everything has been done to ensure that they leave here well.

“What we do here matters, and it is worth a lot to the families.

“Thank you, we couldn’t do what we do without the support of the community like Ryde and Willoughby and companies like Busways.”
