Humans of the Hospital: Monica Holyoak

“After I became a widow, I needed something to do and someone suggested volunteering here at Mount Druitt Hospital. If you don’t want to get bored, become a volunteer!
“You see new people and form friendships. People might not want to have to come to a hospital, but when a volunteer throws a smile at them, you can see them relax. We have fun with them, make jokes and try to make them feel comfortable. It’s a service to the people.”
Monica Holyoak has been a volunteer at Mount Druitt Hospital for nearly 10 years.
‘Humans of the Hospital’ is dedicated to the inspiring humans working at Westmead, Blacktown, Mount Druitt Auburn and Cumberland hospitals in western Sydney.
