Professor Annette Haworth: A visionary leader for Radiation Oncology in western Sydney

Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) is entering a new era of excellence in radiation oncology, under the leadership of Professor Annette Haworth, the Director of Radiation Oncology Medical Physics Services.

Professor Haworth brings with her a wealth of experience in research, teaching, and clinical practice. She is passionate about advancing patient care and is excited by the untapped potential within the Radiation Oncology Department at Westmead Hospital’s Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre (CPMCC).

In her dual role as Director and University of Sydney researcher, Professor Haworth is uniquely positioned to bridge the gap between academic research and clinical practice, creating great promise for the advancement of cancer treatment.

Professor Haworth’s research interests include particle therapy, translational radiobiology, and the development of new imaging techniques for radiation oncology. She is also passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of radiation oncologists.

Under the leadership of Associate Professor Verity Ahern, WSLHD aims to establish Australia’s first particle therapy facility. This facility will provide patients with access to cutting-edge treatments and serve as a unique research hub.

The department has also recently installed a dedicated MRI scanner for radiation oncology, one of the few in Australia. This breakthrough opens doors to elevate cancer treatments to new heights.
