Auburn Hospital bids farewell to John Holder and Greg Hope after over 60 years of dedicated service

Auburn Hospital is farewelling two of its revered long serving staff, John Holder and Greg Hope.

With more than 60 years at Auburn Hospital between them, John and Greg will be dearly missed as they enjoy their retirement.

In May 2001, John Holder became an integral part of Auburn Hospital as a wardsman, where his gentle demeanour and commitment to patient care made an immediate impact.

John’s role involved transporting patients to hospital appointments and nursing homes, comforting them with his kind and compassionate nature.

He later transitioned to the General Services department, where his work ethic, helpful manner, and easy-going personality helped him transition seamlessly into the team.

A founding member of the Auburn Hospital Recycle Team, John’s dedication over the past 17 years has been a driving force behind the team’s success.

“As John embarks on the next chapter of his life, relocating with his wife Linda of 36 years to the Philippines, we extend our deepest gratitude for his hard work, reliability, and willingness to go the extra mile for colleagues and patients alike,” Christopher Reece, Director Finance & Corporate Services at Auburn Hospital said.

John, you will be missed at Auburn Hospital, and we wish you all the best in your well-deserved retirement.

Also part of the Auburn Hospital General Services team, Greg Hope started his career with NSW Health at Marrickville Hospital in 1985 before joining Auburn Hospital in 1986.

From the outset, Greg immersed himself in the hospital’s community, participating in social events, fundraisers, and even donning the role of Santa Claus for the children of fellow employees.

Greg actively participated in the Auburn/St Joseph mini-Olympics and played touch football and cricket.

His warm and generous nature also extended beyond the hospital walls, as demonstrated by his ongoing commitment to the hospital’s recycling efforts, earning awards for the team.

After an incredible 38 years of service, Greg, along with his wife Bernadette, will now embark on a well-earned retirement on the Mid North Coast.

“We express our deepest gratitude for Greg’s unwavering dedication, selflessness, and the countless extra miles he has gone for Auburn Hospital.”
