In the heart of western Sydney, a big project is underway to redefine healthcare accessibility and services for the community through the planning and development of Rouse Hill Hospital.

Spearheading this work is Mohamed Nasr, the Project Lead for Rouse Hill Hospital.

The Pulse sat down with Mohamed to discuss how he feels stepping into his role.

What does your new role entail?

I serve as the Rouse Hill Hospital Project Lead. In this capacity, I oversee the development project of the hospital, collaborating closely with colleagues and leaders in the WSLHD redevelopment team and the leadership team at Rouse Hill Hospital.

Our aim is to create a healthcare facility that aligns with WSLHD’s values and effectively serves the community’s health needs.

Tell us a bit about your career up to this point.

My healthcare career began over 20 years ago as a Clinical Pharmacist. I then progressed to managing Transitional Aged Care services at St Vincent’s Health Sydney. Along the way, I pursued master’s degrees in Health Management and Public Health. Recently, I served as the Service and Capital Planning Manager for the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District, overseeing the clinical planning and design of various redevelopment projects.

As I embark on the Rouse Hill Hospital journey, together with my WSLHD colleagues and leadership, and in partnership with our community, we bring every lesson learned to the forefront to guide this project from sketches on paper to the grand opening, making sure every step reflects our commitment to serving the community’s health needs with excellence and compassion.

I was drawn to Rouse Hill Hospital and WSLHD by their strong commitment to healthcare innovation and digital enablement. The chance to elevate healthcare standards for both patients and staff, while contributing to a legacy of improved patient care and outcomes, motivated me to join this dynamic team.

What is special about our western Sydney community?

The Western Sydney community is incredibly diverse, encompassing various cultures, languages, and health needs. This diversity is our strength, as it allows us to design a hospital that is inclusive and innovative, ensuring that everyone feels welcomed and cared for at Rouse Hill Hospital.

What is your vision for Rouse Hill Hospital?

My vision is to foster a collaborative environment where every team member feels empowered to contribute their best ideas. We will engage closely with the community to ensure their needs are at the forefront of our planning process. Ultimately, I envision a hospital where patients and their families feel supported, where staff take pride in their work, and where innovation drives better health outcomes, aligning perfectly with WSLHD’s mission.

How will Rouse Hill Hospital address community needs and enhance patient outcomes?

Rouse Hill Hospital will be strategically designed to meet the specific health needs of our community by offering a comprehensive range of services and leveraging the latest in digital technology. The Hospital offers a wide range of services including emergency and urgent care, inpatient services and non-admitted care, offering innovative models that focus on virtual care, lifestyle medicine and preventative medicine.

Our goal is to create a hospital that not only addresses today’s healthcare challenges but is also adaptable enough to evolve with future demands.
